In May 2023, ACCO began the process of transitioning to an updated curriculum for the CC-P® program (read about the transition here). This transition resulted in a broadening of content, and consequently, the exam questions were updated. The CC-P® exams were recently updated in May 2024, and that process has positioned ACCO to extend the updates to the CC-P Candidate® program.
As the CC-P Candidate® designation was designed to be an interim recognition and stepping stone to the CC-P® credential, effective May 18, 2024, we have begun the process of transitioning the CC-P Candidate® exams to be aligned with the most current CC-P® standards. Introducing the New CC-P Candidate® Exam Process
The curriculum for this program was updated in May 2023. However, the testing process previously comprised a 90-minute entrance exam and a 60-minute closing exam. Those exams would be represented by the green and blue boxes in the image below.

Moving forward, the exam process is as follows:
- To earn the CC-P Candidate® designation, individuals must pass the three following CC-P Candidate® Entrance Exams:
- Exam 1: Climate Science & Vulnerability Assessment (75 minutes)
- Exam 2: GHG, Energy & Water Management (75 minutes)
- Exam 3a: Law, Policy & Ethics (45 minutes)
- Afterward, to then become a CC-P®, individuals must pass the two following CC-P Candidate® Closing Exams:
- Exam 3b: Organizational Change & Stakeholder Engagement (30 minutes)
- Exam 4: Materiality, Risk Management & Economics
- Complete the elective requirements
- Present a resume demonstrating meeting the CC-P® experience requirements
These changes are important to the CC-P® credential in ensuring an appropriate level of rigor, which ensures that the field advances its credibility and capability.
